50 Anambra pilgrims to undergo leadership and skill acquisition training
No fewer than 50 pilgrims out of 187 pilgrims from Anambra, who went for Easter pilgrimage, have been trained on Leadership and Skill Acquisition Scheme through the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC).
Dr Levi Muonanu, the state Chairman, Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board, who made this disclosure on Monday, in Jerusalem, said the scheme was proposed by the state board to NCPC, as a way to enrich the pilgrimage program in to to develop the county faster .
According to him the proposal was aimed at empowering the youth in the state and the nation at larger in order to make them more resourceful and economic independence which in tandem with the transformational agenda of the present government .
He said for Anambra which is agricultural friendly in nature would be well in tune with principle of mechanized farming in little cost but rich knowledge “ Anambra was chosen for the pilot state as result of the state governor commitment in the development of the youth well being and placing agricultural sector on high realm
He said that the scheme was an innovation in the commission with the sole aim of empowering the Christian youth, with a view to boosting their economic status. And making their less dependable on people or foreign aid
He explained that , the scheme would make the pilgrimage richer, as it would not be only a spiritual rebirth but an economic outreach, as well as to chart a new course of direction for the pilgrims.
Muonanu advised the selected people to make optimal use of the training, so that they could also train others, adding that plan had been made to empower them as soon as possible.
Prof. Vincent Anigbogu, the resource person for the training, said that Anambra had more than enough potential and resources to be self- reliant.
Anigbogu taught the group on the acquisition of the basic principles of leadership, which included, self confidence, high value, youth empowerment and managerial skills among others
He said that if these basic principles were developed among the youth, they would in no distant time become independent economically.
Anigbogu said that revitalising agriculture in the state and the country in general, would reduce the poverty and unemployment level.
Engr John Ananti, the bus leader of the team, said the training was worthwhile and thanked the commission for the opportunity afforded the state to benefit from the scheme,
Ananti said that the whole idea was the brain child of the state pilgrim board and the commission having seen the benefit bought the idea and made Anambra to be the pilot state which to a great extent was beneficial to the participant as farming was made easy “ We were taught the simple mechanism to use either in leadership position or in growing crops’.
He assured that he would take the lessons from the training to members of the community, as farming remained the major occupation of his people.
Mr Obiora Anyakoroa, a participant said that the training was worthwhile while his colleague, Fr Collins Okoye, said he was happy to be part of the training.
Okoye described the training as fulfilling both spiritually and physically for the participants
Mrs MaryRose Ejiofor a participant of the training she learnt lots of mechanism that would help her start little farming in her compound and tips on good leadership in her women meeting.
