Anambra Has Highest Turnover of Senators – IPAC

Anambra State has been described as one with the highest turn over of senators in Nigeria, with special emphasis to Anambra Central Zone in the state, owing to litigations and squabbles in political parties and among politicians.

The state Secretary of Inter party Advisory Council, IPAC, Chief Chidi Chikwendu stated this to ELEKENEWS in an interview yesterday, lamenting that the development has made Anambra Central Zone a laughing stock in the eyes of other states.
Chikwendu who is from Anambra Central, and also a candidate of the Citizens Popular Party, CPP for the senatorial election expressed unhappiness that to date, the zone is still not being represented in the senate as a result of conflict of interest between some stakeholders of the zone over the choice of who to represent the people.
Recall that an appellate court sitting in Abuja had in December 2015 sacked the senator representing the zone, Mrs Uche Ekwunife, calling for a rerun election within 60 days.
Attempts to hold the election in February was not successful, following a court order obtained by the PDP in the state, asking to field a candidate in the election.
Chikwendu while reacting to the inability of the INEC to conduct the election said the duo of Chief Victor Umeh, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and also candidate of the party in the election and the former governor of the state, Mr Peter Obi, who also seeks to contest on the platform of PDP were responsible for the delays.
He however said that stakeholders were working to ensure that they rally together and get both men to give way for another candidate to represent the zone.
“Do you know what we are missing by not having a senator for the zone? We have very qualified persons in the zone, so it must not be both men. Once INEC slates a date for the election, the stakeholders will prevail on these men to withdraw their suits and let us forge ahead because we are the people losing.” He said.
