APGA disowns youth leader who defected to PDP

By Nwafor Okafor

The Anambra Chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, has disowned its member, Magnus Eziokwu who defected recently to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Eziokwu had some days ago led scores of others to PDP ,claiming to be the state youth leader of APGA.

But in a press conference on Friday in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the state chairman of APGA, Norbert Obi,said Eziokwu was sacked as the party’s youth leader before his defection.
Obi said, “Ordinarily we should not have bothered ourselves with such news except that we want to put the records straight.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Magnus Eziokwu while still serving as the state Youth Leader of APGA went behind and secured appointment as a senior special assistant to the governor which is contrary to Article 25 of APGA Constitution 2019.

“Consequently, the party wrote to him when it got wind of his appointment demanding for his automatic resignation and whereupon his deputy,Chike Odoji took over from him in an acting capacity and in accordance with APGA Constitution. This has been the position since May 2021.

“It is therefore mischievous of Magnus Eziokwu to still hold himself out to the PDP who bought him as the state youth leader of APGA knowing full well that he was no longer in that position.

“We have no problems with him leaving the party if he so wished but he should not deceive the public into believing that he was still our state youth leader as at the time he defected to PDP.

Eziokwu’s sack letter dated 14/05/21 sighted by our correspondent read in part,”It is to the utmost surprise of the party that despite the public notice dated the 29th day of .August, 2017 to all party office holders in Anambra State against holding of political office and appointment from government at the same time and which is, contrary to Article 25 of APGA Constitution 2019, that you are guilty or in violation of the said section of APGA Constitution by holding appointments in this APGA Government of Anambra State as a Senior Special Assistant.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, we hereby attach photocopy of your pay slip for the months of February to April 2021 showing that you are a senior special assistant to the governor effective from 1st of September, 2020.

“You are therefore by this letter advised to honourably resign your office as state youth leader of the party forthwith. In fact, it is deemed according to our constitution that you resigned on the 1st day of September, 2020 when you took up this government appointment as SSA.

“Please you are also by this letter directed to handover all party documents and properties in your possession to the State Secretary of the party within seven days of the receipt of this letter. Thanks for your understanding.
