Awka wears new look as Obiano celebrates one year in office


Awka capital territory is undergoing beautification with labourers tidying up major streets and placing decoration in places as the governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano marks one year in office today
The celebration which will witness dignitaries from within and outside the state is will hold at Alex Ekwueme square and will be celebrated with pomp and pageantry.
Our correspondent learnt that traditional rulers, local government chairmen, party executives and various groups in the state have been mobilised and mandated to attend the event.
Within one year of being in office, the Obiano administration has brought security to the state and reduced drastically the rate of armed robbery incidences and kidnappings in the state and also sanitized Upper Iweka which is notorious for habouring deviants and drug peddlers.
His administration is also building three fly over bridges in the state symultanously and engaging in the provision of other infrastructure within Awka to give it the facelift that we make it at par with other state capitals.
Mass transit busses and taxi schemes have also been launched, making mobility easier for residents of the state.

Yesterday, a special thanksgiving mass was held at the Governor’s Lodge Chapel to mark the one year anniversary of Governor Willie Obiano who will be one year in office come March 17, 2015.

The mass was officiated by Cardinal John Onaiyekan and assisted by the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Paulinus EzeOkafor with so many other Reverend Fathers in attendance.

Some of the dignitaries that attended are: The Deputy Governor, Dr. Okeke; the Obi of Onitsha; Sir Victor Umeh; Igwe Mbaukwu, Aguleri and many others.

Dignitaries took time to thank  God for a very successful and eventful first year in office for the governor, while praying that God will continue to guide him and give him the wisdom to sustain his developmental strides for the state.
