Rotary club of Awka gets new President

Event

The Rotary Club of Awka, Anambra state has installed a new president, Rotarian Elvis Amadi to run its affairs for the next one year.

The colourful event held during the weekend in Awka, the Anambra state capital and was a combination of an award ceremony and investiture of the new president.

Amadi’s installation as the 21st President of the club brought together dignitaries from all works of life who came to celebrate with him and the awardees at the event.

Speaking after his installation, Rtn Amadi, an Ikeduru, Imo state born staff of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, said the club has been at the forefront of charitable services and expressed his gratitude to God for giving him the opportunity to serve.

He listed the area of the Club’s interventions to include basic education and literacy; Water sanitation and hygiene; Maternal and child health care; Disease prevention and control; Environmental support; Peacebuilding and conflict prevention; Economic and community development.

He commended the outgone President for his numerous achievement for the club and humanity and assured that his administration would consolidate on the achievements of the past leadership.

Unveiling his plans for the club, the Rotarian promised that his administration has mapped out key areas to accomplish before the expiration of his tenure, including improving health sector, literacy and rural development, among many others.

“My administration will make sure that the community is a better place for the people. We shall promote access to basic healthcare, especially in the five communities in Anambra North, and ensure, through interventions, that issue of maternal deaths is reduced to the barest minimum in the state.”

He, however, challenged club members to support the leadership with useful suggestions, information and ideas that will not only promote the club but bring lasting solution to some societal challenges.

Earlier, the former President of the club, Rtn Godspower Olottah, while handing over the tool of leadership of the club to Rtn Amadi charged him to carry the goals of rotary beyond where he did.

Highpoint of the event was the induction of four new members into the Club and the conferment of awards to notable Nigerians who have contributed to charity in various capacities in the state and beyond.
