Department of Mass Communication Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, is set to mark her 25 years of existence as well as first alumni homecoming.

A press release signed by the Head of Department, Prof. Chinwe Uzochukwu, stated that the event will take place on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at the ASUU Secretariat in the main campus of the university at Awka.

According to her, it will be a unique opportunity to celebrate the milestones attained so far by the department, reflect on the journey so far as well as brace for future challenges and goals.

The event is also intended for celebration of the alumni of the department who are expected to come from far and near to grace the occasion.

Also to feature at the event is public presentation/launch of the Special Silver Jubilee edition of the departmental training magazine, UNIZIK Comet.

The release noted that the occasion will be chaired by veteran journalist and former manager public relations and communications, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Mr Ifeanyi Mbanefo Igwebuike, while the special guest of honour will be the senator represnting Ebonyi Central and Chairman Senate Committee on Youth and Sports, Senator Obinna Ogba. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, will deliver the keynote speech while the jubilee lecturer will be veteran journalist and brand/marketing analyst, Kasie Abone. Businessman and renowned philanthropist, Chief Godwin Agbasimelo, will be the chief launcher.

The release further noted that a number of persons will be honoured at the jubilee event for their various contributions to the growth of the department and society at large. They include politician and philanthropist Senator Andy Uba, the first Head of Department of Mass Communication UNIZIK Prof. A.U. John-Kamen, the first female professor of mass communication in sub-Saharan Africa Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, award-winning journalist and CEO TV360 who is also an alumni of the department Deji Badmus, and frontline journalist and the first President of UNIZIK Mass Communication departmental student body, Mr Nnaemeka Aginam among others.
