Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has called on opposition parties in the state to adopt incumbent Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, as their candidate for the 2025 governorship election, rather than “wasting resources” on a futile contest.
Mefor stated this while receiving some members of “Anambra Deserves Soludo Solution,” led by Dr. Jude Emecheta, in his office at the Jerome Udeorji Secretariat, Awka.
“I urge the opposition parties to come together and adopt Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the sole candidate for the forthcoming governorship election,” Mefor said.
“Although it is the constitutional right of every individual to contest for the governorship of the state, it would be a waste of resources because there is no vacancy in Agu Awka,” Mefor added.
Mefor praised Governor Soludo’s performance, stating that “the governor has done fantastically well, and Anambra deserves him.”
He noted that leaders like Soludo come once in a long while, and that the governor has offered prudent management of the resources of Ndi Anambra, for which he has won awards.
“Anambra indeed deserves Soludo,” Mefor emphasized, adding :”Soludo is the only governor in Nigeria whose capital expenditure exceeds that of his recurrent expenditures.
“The governor spends over 70% on capital projects and 30% on recurrent expenditures; no past or present governor has done so.”
Mefor also highlighted Governor Soludo’s achievement in building many legacy projects in the state without borrowing a kobo.
“This is a mark of judicious management of resources,” he said.
The commissioner advised those aspiring to contest against Soludo to instead use their resources to develop their various communities, rather than engage in a “fruitless exercise.”
In his remarks, the leader of the team, Dr. Jude Emecheta, explained that the aim of the visit was to brief the commissioner on their activities.
He added that they are embarking on a tour of Soludo’s projects across the state to inform Ndi Anambra about the governor’s developmental strides.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of the group’s cap to Commissioner Mefor, who was adopted as an ambassador of the group.
