Former governor of Anambra State and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi has vowed to ensure that votes count in the 2027 presidential election.
In a series of tweets on his X handle, Obi said: “We will do things differently in 2027. We will follow a non violent approach and insist that the right thing will be done before the result are announced in Abuja”.
Obi said he believes in rotation of government between North and South, noting that he implemented it Anambra as a governor.
“If there is any form of agreement that will restrict me to four years in office, I will comply with the agreement and be ready to leave office by 28th May, 2031”, he stated.
On the ongoing coalition talks, he added: “I have always attended all meetings with the coalition. My belief is that we will come to a stage where we will make necessary sacrifices to salvage the nation.
“We will adopt a party and we are hopeful that other parties will work with us. Everybody is free to pick up any party of choice and engage in politics until we are ready with the choice political party”.
Obi added that if elected president, the three things he would follow up within the first 100 days will include prioritizing on security, education and property eradication, as well as cutting cost and shunning corruption.
He said he has not joined in any form of discussion on joint tickets, including with Atiku, stressing, “We are still in the right part of LP and still pursuing the recognition of our leadership in LP by INEC.”
Observing that Nigeria is currently at war and that there is need to do something about it, Obi argued that the more the country is secured, the more the farmers will go to their farms, assuring that “we will secure the country.”
