Two Unizik High School Students Emerge National Champions in Chemistry Contest

Two students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University High School Awka, Anambra State have emerged best male and female Chemistry students in Nigeria in a Chemistry competition organized by the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN).
The students, Master Victor Onwuka and Miss Onyinye Okafor emerged victorious as the overall best in the entire competition in both male and female categories.
The competition tagged, ‘Chemical Society of Nigeria National Secondary School Chemistry Competition 2021,’ held in Lagos, had two representatives each from the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking to reporters, Acting Principal, UNIZIK High School, Mrs. Atinuke Israel disclosed that Onwuka scored 92 out of 100 percent in the Male Category while Okafor recorded 87 percent for the Female Category.
She congratulated the students for the feat, attributing it to intensive preparations by the school and divine backing.
She said, “I am overwhelmed with much joy that l cannot express in words the great feat God granted us as a school.
“We prepared the children the much we could but it’s obvious that God took over to make name for himself.
“I congratulate the students, their chemistry teachers and their external chemistry tutor that took them to Lagos.
“Above all, I return all the glory to God who has chosen to honour UNIZIK High School at a time like this.”
President, Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Prof. Moses Nkem Chendo, said the competition was targeted at rekindling the nostalgia by boosting interest in Chemistry and other Science-related subjects among students.
Onwuka and Okafor were accompanied to Lagos by their tutor and Chemistry Lecturer in the institution, Engr. Nonso Onyenanum.
Chairperson, Chemical Society of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, Prof. Theresa Onuegbu was also present at the event where the duo did the institution and the state proud.
