Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo has reiterated commitment to ensure a clean and healthier Awka Capital City.
Governor Soludo made this remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Committee for a Clean and Green Awka (Dobe Awka Ocha Joint Task Force Team) which membership includes members of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade), Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA) Awka South Local Government Area and Awka Capital Territory Development Authority ( ACTDA) amongst others at the Awka South Local Government Headquarters.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Chukwuma Soludo represented by his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim stated that the occasion is a call to service and affirmed that the primary function of the committee is to ensure a clean and healthy Anambra, noting that a clean and healthy environment is one of the key pillars in the governor Soludo agenda
According to the governor, a good sustainability structure will go a long way in reducing if not completely putting an end to the ravaging menace of reckless attitude towards refuse dumping and blocking of drainage systems and called for a systematic approach to ensure collaborative effort to ensure a livable prosperous and smart mega city.
Dr. Ibezim also made it clear that government is looking forward to establishing same committee in other major cities in the state to ensure a clean and sustainable healthy environment in Anambra assured the enforcement team total support and commitment of Anambra State Government.
Also speaking, the MD/CEO Awka Capital Territory Development Authority who is also the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Chairman on Operation Clean And Green Awka, while commending the team, urged them to be committed in their service. He noted that no misconduct or toutism will be tolerated amongst the team members.
Mr. Onuko also made it clear that part of the mandate of the task force team is to ensure that nobody continues to engage in reckless refuse dumping anymore and noted that violators would be severely dealt with.
Earlier, the commander of the “Dobe Awka Ocha” Enforcement team, Prince Henry Ndigwe while addressing the enforcement team shortly before the inauguration urged the members to maintain maintain absolute commitment and dedication to the discharge of their duties.
He noted that the mission of the team is to unequivocally usher in a clean, green and sustainable Initiative that will enhance the livability of residents of Awka Capital City and called for professional conduct and responsibility of team members in the course of duty.
Contributing, the SG Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade), Emma Anere reinstated commitment to work with the team in line with the governor’s directive to ensure a more cleaner and green Awka, noting that his team are already on ground enforcing desilting and evacuation of refuse dump and sand residue blocking free flow water in drainage systems.
Appreciating, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Council Area, Hon. ThankGod Anagor while thanking the governor and other members of the committee stated that the move was in the right direction, noting the importance of the enforcement team is to match talk with work.
“The move is to provide alternatives for proper dumping of refuse to ensure a clean and healthy environment. The enforcement team are there to ensure strict adherence to the demands and expectations of proper waste disposal and management system, he said”
Other members of the committee who graced the occasion includes ANSEC Committee DG Strategy Evaluation and Execution, Emma Onyilofor amongst others.
Handing over of the brand new official enforcement vehicle and supervising of the just delivered waste disposal bins formed the highlight of the event.
