Nimo Community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has apologised to the Anambra State Government over a protest by a group of youths of the community.
The protesting youth had called for the resignation of the town’s traditional ruler and removal of the Local Government Transition Chairman, as well as the President General of Nimo Community.
Recalled that on Thursday 17 August 2023, a group of people under the aegis of Youths of Nimo Town, went to the House of Assembly, Awka to protest for the removal of the Transition Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Clem Aguiyi, and the resignation of His Royal Majesty, Igwe Maxi Ike Oliobi – Owelle NIMO; as well as the President General of Nimo Town Development Union, NTDU, Chief Ekenenna Okafor-Omabu, from the throne and office.
But reacting to the development in a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of NTDU, Comrade Sir Clems Ezedinachi, and made available to newsmen, the Nimo Community expressed solidarity with the Owelle of Nimo and the President General of the town union, in their bid to place Nimo in a higher pedestal.
The community in the release, condemned the attitude of the group, while urging them to toe the line of peace for a greater tomorrow.
The community also apologized to the State Government on behalf of Nimo Town for what it called the embarrassment caused by the group.
It reassured the state government of the town’s continued support, even as it also apologised to the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, President and the Transition Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area.
It called on the general public to discountenance the actions of the youths.
