A man, Chief Olisa Igbonwa, who was ceremoniously buried alive by few of his kinsmen in Alor, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State in 2022, resurfaced at the premises of the Anambra State House of Assembly and confronted his elder brother, who allegedly masterminded the ceremony.
His appearance coincided with the handling of a petition by his elder brother against the traditional ruler of Alor, Igwe Mac Anthony Okonkwo, leading to a significant commotion in the vicinity. His alleged ceremonial burial was said to be connected with his support for the embattled traditional ruler.
It was gathered that the Anambra State Assembly House Committee on Public Petitions had invited key stakeholders of the community and the traditional ruler, in respect of a pending petition on the issue of traditional rulership.
Ahead of the day’s sitting, Okonkwo had presented a written reply to the petition to the state assembly, stating his own side of the story.
It was on that occasion that Igbonwa allegedly confronted the petitioner, his elder brother, leading to chaos in the assembly premises.
According to a reliable source, that was the first time the people of the community were seeing him since his ceremonial burial in 2022.
Igbonwa and his brother were said to be having a strained relationship over some family issues, adding that the issue worsened when Olisa Igbonwa demanded for certain property documents belonging to their late father.
” It was, therefore, not surprising that when the Igweship tussle reared its head in Alor, the two brothers supported opposing candidates”, an indigene of the community said.
Meanwhile, the State House of Assembly has treated the petition against Igwe Mac-Anthony Okonkwo and warned against creating tension in the community.
Recall that in September 2023, the same group that petitioned against the traditional ruler, sent a letter to the Anambra State Attorney General, claiming that Igwe Mac-Anthony Okonkwo had been sacked by the courts and should not be allowed to perform the annual New Yam festival of the community.
It took the intervention of Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, Igwe Mac-Anthony’s lawyer, to write the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to clear the air concerning the petition.
