Lawmaker Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has appealed to the Senate to permit the widow of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah to succeed him as Anambra South Senatorial District’s representative.
Ndume made this plea during Tuesday’s Valedictory session honoring the late senator.
Ndume emphasized the importance of preserving Ubah’s legacy through his family, citing historical precedents.
He argued that this move would honour the late senator’s contributions and ensure continuity in representing his constituency.
Ndume referenced past examples, including Margery Okadigbo, who joined the Senate after her husband Chuba Okadigbo’s passing, and Oluremi Tinubu, who served in the Senate with the goodwill of Lagosians and her husband’s legacy.
Other examples include Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, and Senator Ede Dafinone, who all followed in their families’ footsteps.
Ndume noted that Ubah’s wife, around 50 years old, has been a wonderful support system. He appealed to the Senate President and colleagues to support the idea of Ubah’s family having a representative in the chamber, ensuring continuity and honor for the Anambra South Senatorial District.
