The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, has honoured a gateman and some other staff of the Union for their outstanding qualities to duty in Anambra state.
Tears of joy flowed from the members as the gateman and few other less privileged persons among those honoured stepped forward to receive their plaques
The 11 staff were chosen from 10 divisions of JUSUN from different local government areas of the state, while one person was from the state headquarters in Awka
The event was held at the Judiciary headquarters in Awka at the weekend, where over 400 members of the Union from urban and rural areas were in attendance.
Before the Awards, the Union held it’s last Congress for 2024, where some challenging issues before the Union were tabled and discussed
Speaking with The Razor, Chairman of JUSUN, comrade Ifeanyichukwu Ezeoke, said those rewarded were for obedience to authorities, dedication to work, punctuality to work among other things in their different stations
He said their Co-workers monitored and nominated them in their different stations without them knowing they were being monitored, describing it as an annual ritual for the Union
Ezeoke, said the Award was introduced by the pioneer chairman of JUSUN in Anambra state, comrade Basil Mbanefo, adding that any staff that merits it would be chosen by their colleagues
For two of the Awardees, the gateman, Mr Ndulue Raymond of Onitsha North division and Mrs Nkwonta Vivian of Nnewi Customary court, it’s a licence to raise the standard
Ndulue said, ” I cried because I never planned for the Award. Look at me, my duty is to open and close gate for the Judges. I’ve worked for over 20 years now as a gateman”
For Vivian Nkwonta,”it was a shock to me when my name was announced, all thanks to God. I always report to my office early everyday, maybe, it was the reason (weeps)
