EDITORIAL

By Tony Okafor

The abduction of retired Anglican Archbishop, Rev. Godwin Okpala, has sent shockwaves through the Christian community and beyond.

This 75-year-old clergyman, who has dedicated his life to serving God and humanity, deserves our collective outrage and urgent action.

We implore his abductors to release him unharmed and call on Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, clerics, and all people of goodwill to intervene and secure his freedom.

Archbishop Okpala’s life has been a commitment to his faith and his people. As a respected leader, he has inspired countless individuals, providing guidance, comfort, and hope to those in need.

His selflessness, compassion, and dedication to his flock have earned him a special place in the hearts of many. It is unconscionable that a man of his stature and character should be subjected to such cruelty.

We beg Archbishop Okpala’s abductors to have mercy on this elderly clergyman. Consider the devastating impact your actions have on him, his family, friends, and community.

Think of the countless lives he has touched, the souls he has nurtured, and the love he has shared. Is this how we repay his lifetime of service?

We urge you to release him, not just as a humanitarian gesture, but as a moral obligation to treat a fellow human being with dignity and respect.

To Governor Soludo, we appeal to your sense of justice and compassion. As the chief executive of Anambra State, you have a sacred responsibility to protect the lives and well-being of all citizens, particularly those who have served the state and nation with distinction.

PWe implore you to use your good offices to secure Archbishop Okpala’s release and ensure that those responsible for his abduction are brought to justice.

We must ask ourselves: what kind of society are we building when we can so callously disregard the life and dignity of a revered clergyman?

We must come together to condemn this heinous act and demand that our leaders take concrete actions to prevent such incidents in the future.

The release of Archbishop Okpala is not just a matter of individual freedom, but a test of our collective humanity.

We urge all Nigerians to join us in calling for his safe return.
