Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof Obiora Okonkwo has declared his intention to contest for the governorship position of Anambra State. He will be contesting under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okonkwo on Friday in his country home in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, inaugurated his campaign council, comprising of people from all the 21 local government areas.

While addressing them, the political economist said: “The gospel of Jesus Christ started with just a few people, but the people who stood with him believed in his teaching and his teaching started spreading.

“Today you all are my disciples, but what is important is that you have to believe in my gospel and spread it. We will grow larger than this and eventually win the 2025 election.

“What I’m begging APC to do for me is to give me the ticket let me contest this election, and I assure you I will give you victory.

“I’m happy that I called you all and you came. We have a structure and we are ready to empower people to do their work. Everyone will have a place where they will be allocated and empowered with what will help them do their job.”

The businessman from Anambra Central Senatorial Zone told his supporters that some people are already jittery because of his entry into the contest, and very soon, those who are afraid will begin an orchestrated campaign for zoning, and the target will be to discredit him with the intention of favouring aspirants from Anambra South Senatorial Zone.

He said: “The people you see here include people who came with me from other parties to join APC. Very soon, the new campaign for zoning will be against me, but they will be doing it for selfish reasons. They will invest a lot of money in the campaign, but we are not afraid. We are only asking that you should not be swayed by their argument.

“Zoning is not an Anambra thing, APC is not part of zoning. If there is fire, will you be looking for authentic road to escape? Any road you see can be used, and I want to tell you that Anambra is on fire today, and we should look for our best to send, so that we redeem our state which is on fire.”
