EDITORIAL: Soludo, EbubeMuonso: Exploring blueprint for prophets and leaders

The recent public spat between Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, and Reverend Father EbubeMuonso, has raised alarm bells.

As the stakes grow higher, we urge both parties to immediately cease hostilities and work towards peace.

In a nation where religion and politics are increasingly intertwined, it is crucial to remember that prophets and authorities have coexisted throughout history.

From Kings David and Ahab to prophets like Jeremiah and Ezekiel, we see examples of truth spoken to power, guiding and correcting rather than sparking conflict.

As 1 Timothy 2:1-2 reminds us, “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way.”

Father EbubeMuonso, as a man of God, your words hold immense power.

We urge you to continue speaking truth, but to do so in a way that promotes understanding and peace, rather than venom and strife.

Describing a governor elected by the people as having a “reprobate mind” and predicting the downfall of his administration should not be the language of the pulpit.

Governor Soludo, as a leader, it is your responsibility to promote a culture of respect and tolerance, even in the face of disagreement and provocation.

We call on you to instruct your aides to cease their attacks on Father EbubeMuonso and work towards peace.

The consequences of a religious war are too dire to contemplate. We need only look to the devastating example of Rwanda to understand the importance of finding peace.

Let us strive for harmony and understanding, rather than conflict and strife.

We urge Soludo and EbubeMuonso to put aside their differences and work towards a peaceful Anambra.
