There is tension at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Awka, Anambra state, following the rumoured case of Lassa fever
The Razor, gathered that the patients at the hospital and visitors were in panic as the report of the virus outbreak filtered in.
Reacting, the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the hospital, Dr Joseph Akabuike, told The Razor that rumours spread like wildfire
He debunked the claims of any lassa fever outbreak in the hospital or in Anambra state, adding that there is no cause for alarm
However, he confirmed that few weeks ago, a patient came to the hospital and such a thing was suspected and the patient was quickly referred to Irua in Edo state immediately.
Though according to him, the person died, but the hospital confirmed that his test of lassa fever conducted, proved negative
“To tell you the truth, there was tension immediately the patient arrived and we had to make necessary arrangements to quarantine all the people around that axis that moment.
“It was not easy managing such situation, but you know how rumours fly, there was panic everywhere, but every arrangement was done immediately and the patient was referred to Irua for test and analysis.
“When the result came out it was negative and by that time, the patient had already given up.
“So, there’s nothing like lassa fever anywhere close to Anambra state and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching hospital” Akabuike said
