As part of the activities marking this year’s 2025 Mothering Sunday, women from Catholic and Anglican denominations in Anambra North received 25,000 pieces of six yards of Catholic Women Organisation uniforms and 25,000 Anglican Women Mary Sumner uniforms, donated by Senator Dr. Tony Nwoye.
The beneficiaries included members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) from Onitsha Archdiocese and Aguleri Diocese, as well as Anglican women from four dioceses: Diocese on the Niger, Ogbaru Diocese, Niger West Diocese, and Niger East Diocese.
While handing over the uniforms, Senator Nwoye said, “I decided to gift these uniforms to Catholic and Anglican mothers because they are special and important members of our society, making a significant difference. The influence of a mother on her children is immeasurable.”
Senator Nwoye revealed that he was inspired to donate the uniforms after an elderly CWO member approached him for help.
“I was unaware of the importance of these uniforms to mothers. The elderly woman’s appeal moved me, and I decided to procure them.”
He warned that the uniforms should not be sold to any Christian mother within the senatorial district and extended the gesture to mothers in the Anglican Communion.
Senator Nwoye urged mothers to speak out against poor leadership and societal ills.
“Ndi Nne are known to be agents of truth. Today, mothers are afraid to speak out against poor leadership, and society is suffering. We need to rediscover the courage to effect real change.”
The Director of CWO, Onitsha Archdiocese, Mrs. Ngozi Nwanosike, and other representatives thanked Senator Nwoye for his generosity.
Senator Nwoye also donated a Toyota Corolla car to Chief Ossy Chinwuba, a respected community leader and former House of Assembly member, in appreciation for his steadfastness and to support his movement within the senatorial zone.
