The Anambra State Government, led by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has demolished the head office of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) on Nnewi-Owerri Road.

The government has also threatened to demolish a Catholic Church in the area as part of ongoing road construction.

Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma, confirmed the development, stating that the IVM head office was among the buildings marked for demolition.

In a telephone interview, Okoma explained that all affected buildings were marked and their owners informed.

“These buildings were marked sometime in December or January. We are not targeting individuals; this is a state-wide project aimed at decongesting traffic gridlock experienced during festival periods,” he said.

“Even the Catholic Church and other buildings along the road will not be spared.”

Okoma added that Governor Soludo is a strong supporter of made-in-Nigeria products, describing Chief Innoson as “our man.”

He accused those spreading “wrong narratives” about the demolition exercise of having ulterior motives.

However, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing has expressed displeasure over the partial demolition of its head office.

Mr. Cornel Osigwe, Head of Corporate Communications at Innoson Group, confirmed that the demolition took place without prior notification.

He stated that the office perimeter fence, some offices, the staircase, and the company’s showroom were affected.

“We did not know that the building was marked for demolition, and if it was, they should have given us time to relocate,” Osigwe said.
