A planned visit by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Anambra State to commission projects has sparked tension between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
According to the Anambra State Government, President Tinubu is scheduled to visit Anambra State on Thursday to commission projects executed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo of APGA.
The visit has raised concerns among some APC members that it could be perceived as an endorsement of Soludo’s re-election bid, potentially boosting his chances in the November 8 governorship election.
An APC bigwig in the state, who wished to remain anonymous, reportedly expressed concerns that the visit could unfairly advantage Soludo.
In response to the growing unease, sources close to the Presidency have hinted that President Tinubu might send a delegation to Anambra instead of attending the event himself.
This move is seen as an attempt to mitigate the tension between the two parties.
However, APGA officials have welcomed the President’s visit, saying it is a recognition of the state’s development projects under Governor Soludo’s leadership.
Some residents have also weighed in on the issue, with Emma Eze noting, “Good governance shouldn’t be about political party affiliation but about delivering on promises to the citizens.”
Victor Chigozie Eneh, a Facebook user, also shared his thoughts on the visit. “President Tinubu will be in Anambra state on May 8th.”
“But ndi APGA are terrible. They are just sycophants. These same people have been insulting APC and Mr. President.
“Mr. President is now a good leader because he agreed to come and commission the new Government House built by the “outgoing” Gov Soludo.”
Eneh added, “President Tinubu is a statesman and a leader. It is good he is coming to Anambra on the invitation of the APGA government.
“He will come on May 8th, 2025, to commission the government house on invitation of APGA. And on March 17th, 2026, he will be here again on invitation of APC to the inauguration of Prince Evang Nicholas Ukachukwu as the new governor of Anambra state. We welcome President Tinubu to Anambra.”
The visit has sparked a heated debate about the potential implications of the President’s actions on the state’s electoral dynamics.
The Presidency has yet to confirm whether President Tinubu will proceed with the visit or send a delegation instead.
