
In response to the directive by Governor Chukwuma Soludo that all communities in Anambra should organise and launch their own Agunechemba unit to complement what is done at the state level, Nsugbe community has launched Agunechemba Nsugbe Unit.
The launch was attended by illustrious sons and daughters of the community, as well as notable groups.
The event held at St Joseph’s Catholic church field, Nsugbe, Anambra East council area, also attracted the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikioye Orutugu, Divisional Police Officer, Otuocha Division, Mr Moses Iruogabe and other security personnel.
Inaugurating Agunechemba Nsugbe Unit, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Orutugu, represented by the Officer In charge of Community Policing Oluchi Aniemena and the Divisional Police Officer, Otuocha Division Mr Iruogabe, represented by the CSP Chukwunonso Onunkwo and a representative of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Superintendent Grace Udedibia said security of lives and property of the people is a divine task which
is not an easy task.
They reminded the people that their job is to protect lives and property, not to take laws into their hands, or involve in civil matters.
They added that it is not also to be intimidated, but to respect security men and women, not to be used as thugs and not to arrest and detain criminals for their own good.
In an address, the President General Nsugbe Development Union, Mr Robert Ezeanwu, explained that organising the programme starting from the screening process is not an easy task, expressing happiness that they were able to complete the planning through the instrumentality of Committed Nsugbe Citizens Empowerment Foundation, and said that security of the community has been further fortified for safeguarding lives and property of the people.
In a speech, the chairman Nsugbe Security Management and Finance Committee, Reverend Father Emmanuel Anyansi whose speech was delivered by the Secretary of the committee, Mr Nnamdi Okeke, said that the passage of Homeland Security Law by Governor Soludo couldn’t have happened at a better time than now, appreciating the Governor for all he is doing especially in security, and thanked the members of Committed Nsugbe Citizens Empowerment Foundation for donating all the security gadgets that would make the job of the operators of Agunechemba easy, even as urged them to do their job religiously.
The patron of the Committed Nsugbe Citizens Empowerment Foundation who is a major stakeholder in the community, Mr Amaechi Okeke, appreciated the commissioner of police and other security personnel who attended the event and called for more continuous support both financially and materially to ensure that the security of lives and property of Ndi Nsugbe is guaranteed and promised the operators that they will be well taken care of, that they only need to focus on the job.
A member of Committed Nsugbe Citizens Empowerment Foundation, Engineer Chidi Obiudu handed over the security gadgets to members of Nsugbe Security Management and Finance Committee who also donated six brand new motorcycles to Agunechemba outfit.
The event featured parade by members of Agunechemba Nsugbe Unit while a retired Commissioner of Police who is of Nsugbe origin, Mr Charles Mozie promised to oversee the activities of the operators of Agunechemba to ensure maximum support.
