The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Gubernatorial Candidate for Anambra State, Mr John Chuma Nwosu, has called for an end to the wanton killings in the state.
Nwosu was reacting to the recent killing of 13 persons in a meeting venue in Ogboji community in Orumba South Local Government Area on Monday.
Gunmen operating in two SUVs had pulled up at the meeting of the venue of Ebonyi State indigenes living in the community and shit at them, killing 13.
Reacting to this, Nwosu expressed grief and outrage over the tragic incident, while consoling the grieving families, the entire Ogboji community, Ebonyi people resident in Anambra, and the government of Ebonyi State,.
In a press release he personally signed, Nwosu said: “The incident as a tragic reflection of the failure of leadership to secure lives and properties. No society can thrive under the threat of violence and lawlessness.
“I condemn in totality the heinous and senseless killing of innocent citizens in Ogboji, a peaceful community in Anambra South Senatorial Zone. The unprovoked attack, which claimed multiple lives and left several others injured, has plunged the people of Ogboji into mourning and renewed fears over the worsening security situation in the state.
“The loss of even one life to senseless violence is a tragedy; the massacre in Ogboji is an unacceptable stain on our collective conscience.
“While we await the full outcome of police investigations, it’s imperative that we look beyond isolated narratives and acknowledge the pervasive security challenges that continue to make our communities vulnerable.
“The primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, and on this front, Ndi Anambra continue to live in fear.
“Those who perpetrated this heinous crime must face the full wrath of the law. There can be no sacred cows. We demand a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation, followed by the diligent prosecution of every individual involved in this barbaric act.
“Only then can true healing begin for the victims, and a clear message be sent that impunity will not be tolerated in Anambra State.”
He called on the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo to sit up, insisting that ADC’s Comprehensive Security Agenda as proposed by him will solve all problems of insecurity in the state.
