The Inner Wheel Nigeria, IWM has moved to tackle the issue of gender based and domestic violence and to fight preventable diseases like cervical cancer in the society.
The group has equally, Marshalled out plans to empower indigent women and youths with entrepreneurship training, skills acquisition and other forms of support for self reliance and self sustenance
Further more, the members have concluded arrangements to support the aged, the homeless and the forgotten in the society.
These were reeled out at the Jesse Hotels, Awka Anambra state, Saturday, during the inauguration of the new Chairman and induction of new Officers of district 914.
Also, 10 prominent Nigerians, including the leader of the All Progressives Congress APC, Chief Modestus Umenzekwe and Senator, representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh were honoured by the Inner Wheel Nigeria, IWM.
The event attracted signatories, including the former Governor of the state, Mr Peter Obi, represented by Dr Valentine Obienyem, Hon Lillian Orogbu, House of representatives member, Awka North and South and Governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, Sir Paul Chukwuma, represented by Chief Jude Osude, a security expert
Addressing the crowd, former commissioner for Women’s Affairs in Anambra state, Dr Ego Uzoezie,who was inaugurated as the new chairman, said they require over 30 million naira to prosecute some of the projects already mapped out for the year.
She said they were going to visit rehabilitation centre or school and provide wheel chairs, learning tools and other necessities, visit old people’s home and orphanages, offer educational support by paying WAEC fees for select indigent students among other things
She lamented abject poverty ravaging the society and insecurity all over the space and moral decadence, adding that the problems were compounded by poor leadership.
For Chief Jude Osude, who represented Sir Paul Chukwuma of YPP, the issue of kidnappings, killings and some other crimes in Anambra state would fizzle out once a good leader takes over governance in Anambra state.
