The governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Anambra State, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has accused the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo of neglecting Awka North Local Government Area despite receiving over N30 billion in federal allocations since the governor assumed office.

Chukwuma made the allegation during his campaign tour of Awka North, where he was received by party supporters and community leaders in Mgbakwu.

He lamented that the area had remained underdeveloped despite its strategic importance to the state.

“The first problem with Awka North is connectivity among its communities. This is a major challenge, and we shall confine this experience to history.

“We shall make it easy for all communities in Awka North to become accessible from one point to another,” he said.

Chukwuma further claimed that the state government had failed to invest in security and agriculture, two areas he described as vital to the livelihood of the people.

He said the neglect had forced many farmers to abandon their farmlands due to criminal activities.

“Awka North gets between N8 billion and N9 billion annually from federal allocation. Since the inception of this administration, the local government has received over N30 billion. Yet, communities in Awka North are neglected.

“Many of our brothers and sisters are farmers who cannot access their farms today. They get zero support from the State Government,” Chukwuma stated.

The YPP candidate promised to prioritize infrastructural development, security, and agricultural support if elected governor in the 2025 governorship election.

He also pledged to tackle network challenges in the LGA and create opportunities for farmers to expand into produce export.

“Our government has an eye on Awka North, and we shall fix this local government,” he declared.

Chukwuma’s remarks are likely to spark fresh debate on the utilization of federal allocations in the state as the 2025 governorship race gathers momentum.
