It was a moment of joy, celebration, and thanksgiving as the President-General of Agulu People’s Union (APU), Chief Oliver Nwachukwu Afamefuna (Owelle Agulu), gave his blessings to his son, Pharmacist Chisom Kingsley Afamefuna, and his wife, Mrs. Peace Afamefuna (née Onwuzuruike), during their traditional marriage ceremonies held over the weekend in Imo and Anambra States.

The traditional marriage rites between Pharmacist Chisom Afamefuna and Mrs. Peace Afamefuna, daughter of Nze Nnamdi Julius Onwuzuruike and Mrs. Victoria Obi of Umunoha Town, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, took place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Umunoha, amidst glamour and cultural pageantry.

The following day, Sunday, October 19, the celebration shifted to the Afamefuna family compound in Nwanchi Village, Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, where the “Nnete Nwanyi” traditional ceremony was held in honour of the new bride.

The events drew a large crowd of dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, friends, and well-wishers from across Nigeria, who came to felicitate with the family and witness what many described as “a union blessed by God.”

In his message of blessings, Chief Oliver Afamefuna expressed gratitude to God for the success of the ceremonies and prayed for divine favour upon the couple.

“Our hearts are full of joy and gratitude to Almighty God for His love and grace upon our children,” Owelle Agulu said, adding, “We pray that their marriage will be fruitful, peaceful, and filled with understanding and prosperity.”

He further advised the newlyweds to uphold the sanctity of marriage, describing it as “a sacred institution ordained by God,” and assured them of continuous parental guidance and prayers.

Prominent members of the Agulu community, including Chief Ikechukwu Anoliefo (Ihechukwukwulu of Agulu), Chief Mmaduabuchukwu Anigbogu (Ozo Chikwadolu of Agulu), Ozo K.C. Onyekwelu (Onyemakaogadiya), and Nze Godwin Afuecheta Nweke (Ojemba Enweilo), offered their goodwill messages, praying for fruitfulness, unity, and long life for the couple.

The Eze Ndi Igbo of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, His Royal Highness Eze Barth Okpala, also graced the occasion. In his royal message, he commended Chief Afamefuna for his leadership and family values, praying that “God shall bless the couple with good children, prosperity, and long life.”

Other guests who extended their felicitations included Engineer Maduka Anetoh, Chief Chukwudi Ejidike (Ezennia na Okpu-Ifite Agulu), Barrister Chukwuemeka Ifediba (Ezekwesili na Agulu), Mr. Kelvin Agbago, and Mr. Chizoba Okebor, among others.

Adding colour to the event was the presence of members of the Agulu Girls High School Old Students Association, who came to honour their member, Barrister Mrs. Beatrice Blessing Afamefuna, the groom’s mother. Speaking on behalf of the association, Evangelist Francisca Eduputa Ebedu described Mrs. Afamefuna as “a woman of virtue, humility, and grace,” praying for God’s continued blessings upon the new couple.

The double celebration in Imo and Anambra States was marked by rich cultural displays, traditional music, and heartfelt prayers — a reflection of the unity and goodwill that surrounded the Afamefuna family.

As the ceremonies came to a close, guests departed with smiles and gratitude, describing the event as “a true celebration of love, peace, and family blessings.”
