Nigerian-born British lawyer, Mrs. Margaret Obi, has been appointed as a High Court Judge in England and Wales, marking a historic milestone as the first African-born person to attain the position.
Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, announced the development while congratulating her in a post on X titled “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders.”
He described Mrs. Obi’s appointment as “a remarkable testament to dedication, professionalism, and the global success of Nigerians.”
Peter Obi highlighted the new judge’s over 27 years of legal practice and seven years of judicial service, commending her for exemplifying “hard work, integrity, and professional excellence.”
Addressing possible confusion over their names, Obi clarified that Mrs. Margaret Obi is not his wife, noting that his spouse bears the name Mrs. Margaret Peter-Obi.
He further described the appointment as “a proud moment for Nigerians across the world,” urging that such achievements should “inspire us to build systems that allow excellence to flourish within Nigeria itself.”
