Barring any last-minute change of mind, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, is set to carry out a sweeping cabinet shake-up in what insiders describe as a major purge ahead of his second term, which begins on 17 March 2026.

Multiple government sources told our correspondent that no fewer than seven commissioners may be dropped in the impending shake-up, as the governor prepares to reorganize his administration for what they describe as a “more strategic and performance-driven second term.”

An insider who spoke on condition of anonymity said tension has gripped the cabinet as the governor’s body language increasingly suggests dissatisfaction with the performance of some of his appointees.

“Nobody is sure to stay back,” the source said, adding,“From the governor’s body language, many will not make it into the second term.

“His disposition shows that most of us didn’t do enough to be retained. For me, I have tidied up my table. Any time the sack order comes, I will leave. My placenta is not planted here.”

Another highly placed government official disclosed that a prominent figure who played a key role in coordinating Soludo’s election campaigns might be among the first casualties.

According to the source, the governor reportedly believes the individual has “overstayed” in government and may need to give way for fresh hands.

The impending reshuffle may not be limited to commissioners alone. Sources confirmed that several other aides—including senior special assistants, executive assistants, and advisers—may also be relieved of their duties.

“Some of the aides were recommended by stakeholders during the governor’s first term,” another insider said.

“He just managed them till now. But this time, the governor wants at least 80% of his appointees to be personally selected so he can be fully in charge and hold them directly accountable.”

Soludo, who was re-elected on November 8, 2025, with about 73% of the total votes cast, is believed to be pushing for a more cohesive and result-oriented team as he begins the next phase of his administration.

Political observers say the anticipated cabinet overhaul underscores Soludo’s determination to consolidate development efforts and refocus governance priorities as he seeks to advance his Dubai-Taiwan vision for Anambra State.
