Enugwu-Agidi community overrules, Ebuka Onuorah, sets new date for general meeting

At last, the stranglehold of estranged president general of Enugwu-Agidi, Hon Ebuka Onuorah on the community may have been broken. This is following his removal from the seat, and successful scheduling of a general meeting of the community without his interference.

The community has been experiencing leadership crisis for months due to constitutional breeches allegedly committed by the estranged President-General Mr Ebuka Onuorah, of Enugwu-Agidi community, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra.

According to sources in the community, the breeches attracted the attention of the Anambra State government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, under Mr Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne as Commissioner, who intervened to curb insensitive actions that may lead to bloodbath which is against the ancestral heritage of the community.

The Interim President- General, Enugwu-Agidi, Ozo(Chief) Kenechukwu Darlington Okoye said that the community was besieged with lots of unconstitutional activities which aimed to totally truncating the peace, values, morales and culture of the people if it were not arrested at the most needed time.

He said December 29th, 2025 has been set for their general election, as the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), Nigeria has elected a three man electorial committee to not only conduct the election, but to supervise it equally. This is against December 16 earlier scheduled by Onuorah.

He said that leadership impasses which had affected the social cum economic and cultural way of the people was the major end product of the meeting held on November 30 at the National Executive Council Hall of the union by the fourteen man delegates of the National Executive Committee (NEC), Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), Nigeria .

He said that the outcome of the meeting, the Vice President-General of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), Okoye, said that after due consultations, and other conditions that the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, mandated them to select a three man electorial committee for the December 29th, 2025 general election of the community.

Okoye, expressed his belief, and that of his EXCO members that the election has been done , and dusted, thanking the people of Enugwu-Agidi for their unshakable support as well as their unalloyed trust to their affairs.

Okoye,and the secretary EBU, Enugwu-Agidi, who doubled as the interim President-General of the community, maintained that the election scored 2/1 votes, emphasising that they are three, and scored 2/1 votes with Engr. Martin Nnoli, scoring eight votes, Keku Ifeme, eight votes, Obuneme Onubiyi, six votes, pastor Ifechukwu Okafor, seven votes, Barr. Nwagbo, seven votes, and Clement Nwobu, six votes.

He however, called on the attention of the Commissioner for Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, to make use of his good offices to add additional one person to them with a view to bringing the numbers of the electorial committee members to three as required

Okoye said as members of the EBU NEC, Enugwu-Agidi.

“we are thanking our people for their efforts so far, as well as maintaining a peaceful atomsphere during, and after the election”, he said.

He also noted that the election did not witness smallest of violence as the people conducted themselves properly as long as the election lasted.

Okoye commended the Legal Adviser of the union, Barrister, Justin Obuzor, (Akajiugo Enugwu-Agidi), who was unbiased in all his submissions and agreed with him that by the grace of God that they had successfully elected a three man committee that will not only conduct the election fairly,but should supervise the December 29th election for people of Enugwu-Agidi as enshrined in the constitution of the community.

“We are very grateful to God that the election happened positively, and with a lot of encouragement from the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the union”, he said.

Also, on the appreciation he noted that the Assistant Publicity Secretary, EBU, Nigeria, Mr Daniel Egbuonu, said that the outcome of the election was what they really expected, adding that they had six persons nominated for the election, while the numbers of the accredited voters were fourteen.

“With the available results, what it means is that two person got eight votes each, and have scaled through, while the other two persons who equally got seven votes each, needed their ties to be broken by the National Executive Committee of the union to determine the faith of the third member of the electorial committee,” he explained.

 

The Chief Provost of the union, Comrade Okechukwu Okam (Okenwa Enugwu-Agidi), thanked God almighty who had in his infinite mercy given them the winning, noting that Ndi-Enugwu Agidi had taken concrete decision on who, and who that are going to be their electorial committee, come December 29th, 2025 general election of the community as stipulated by their constitution.

Meanwhile, the estranged President- General of the community, Mr. Ebuka Onuorah, has condemned the outcome of the election in its entirety, describing it as unacceptable, calling for repeat of the election.

The election was monitored by the officers from the Anambra State Ministry of Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Awka.
