Chukwuma Pius Okoye, popularly known as Nwa Anayo Eze, has declared his intention to contest the Awka North and South Federal Constituency seat in the National Assembly, currently held by Prof. Lilian Orogbu.

Supporters of Okoye have cited the constituency’s long-standing electoral pattern as a reason the incumbent may face difficulty securing reelection.

“Since Nigeria returned to democratic governance in 1999, no representative from Awka North and South has ever won two consecutive terms in the House of Representatives,” Okoye’s supporters stated.

Political watchers say this trend reflects the electorate’s demand for performance-driven leadership, with voters consistently rejecting representatives who fail to deliver tangible development or maintain meaningful engagement with their constituents.

They note that the constituency’s voters are politically conscious and development-focused, sending a clear message that leadership must be earned, not assumed.

Supporters of Okoye contend that Prof. Orogbu’s tenure has not produced visible progress, making her position vulnerable ahead of the 2027 elections.

Okoye, the current Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, is widely regarded as a seasoned lawmaker with a proven track record in legislative excellence, community engagement, and grassroots development.

His tenure in the State Assembly has been marked by active participation in governance and a consistent presence at community events, youth initiatives, and local projects, his supporters maintained.

They maintain that his election would usher in a new era of purposeful, results-driven leadership in Awka North and South.

As 2027 approaches, the contest for the constituency’s House of Representatives seat is emerging as one of the most closely watched in Anambra State, with Okoye promising to redefine representation if elected.
