Uncontrollable tears of joy, singing and spontaneous dancing took over Community Primary School, Isimkpuma Ndieze Okpoto, Ebonyi State, as a former Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, CSP Nwode Nkeiruka, ANIPR, PMP, came to the rescue of the school with a truckload of desks, school bags and pairs of shoes.
CSP Nwode, who currently serves as Police Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos State, made the donation after coming across a heartbreaking social media post lamenting the acute shortage of desks and basic learning materials in the school.
What began as an online cry for help turned into a life-changing moment for the pupils within a remarkably short time.
Eyewitnesses said the entire community stood still in disbelief when a truck conveying desks drove into the school compound, only for it to be confirmed that the items were indeed meant for the long-neglected primary school.
The Headmistress of the school, visibly overwhelmed, said she was “completely dumbfounded” by the gesture.
“When I saw the truck entering the compound, I never imagined it was for our school. When it became clear, I couldn’t hold back my tears. This is a miracle,” she said.
Teachers, pupils and residents burst into songs of praise, dancing round the school premises, thanking God and showering prayers on the donor, whom they described as “a blessing sent at the right time.”
Some pupils, who had been sitting on bare floors or broken benches, were seen clutching their new school bags and sandals with excitement, as smiles replaced years of hardship.
Speaking on the motivation behind the donation, Princess Nwode, widely known for her philanthropic activities, said the gesture was part of her commitment to giving back to society.
“As part of giving back to the society, I was honoured to provide chairs, school sandals and school bags to support a public school,” she said.
“It may seem small, but access to basic learning needs makes a real difference in the lives of our children. Thank you to the school for allowing me to contribute in this small but meaningful way.”
She also acknowledged the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for creating room for officers to impact lives beyond official duties.
“I respectfully acknowledge the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for the opportunity and support to serve the community beyond duty,” she added.
Residents of Isimkpuma Ndieze Okpoto described the intervention as timely and transformational, urging other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture, noting that quality education begins with providing basic learning tools.
For the pupils of the rural Ebonyi school, it was more than a donation — it was a moment of hope, dignity and a reminder that their voices, even on social media, can still be heard.
