Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo will on Thursday, January 29 meet with chairmen and secretaries of various markets in Anambra State over the continued adherence to sit at home orders by the traders, despite government orders.

A letter by the Ministry for Trade and commerce, which was signed on behalf of the commissioner by the Special Adviser to the governor (SPAD) on Trade and Markets, Mr Evarist Uba, which was sighted by this newspaper said the meeting would hold at the International Convention Center in Awka.

A top government source who spoke with DAILY POST denied that the meeting was not as a result of government capitulation because of the protest on Tuesday by traders, but was rather because some market leaders reached out to government to appeal for the reopening of the market.

The letter read: “President General of ASMATA (Anambra State Market Traders Association), All Market Chairmen and Secretaries, All Zonal Chairmen and Secretaries; and All Line Chairmen and Secretaries are hereby invited to a crucial meeting with Mr. Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR (Oluatuegwu) on matters of urgent importance.

“Date is Thursday 29″ January 2026 and time is 11.00am prompt.Venue is the International Conference Centre (ICC) Awka.

There was tension in Onitsha Main Market on Tuesday following forceful closure of the market by the governor and deployment of huge traffic into the market to enforce the closure.

While traders had changed the praise of Nnamdi Kanu, attributing their desire to sit at home on his continued incarceration, the leaders of the markets reached out to state government to plead for leniency over the closure and reopen the market.

It was gathered that Thursday’s meeting would be heavily policed, while all attendees will be c resulted. This is to avoid the hijack of the meeting by separatist elements.
