The National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), Prince Emeka Kalu (Magic Fingers), was on Wednesday accorded royal reception in Anambra by members of the union.
Kalu, a member of staff of Anambra Broadcasting Servicing (ABS) who was also former state chairman of RATTAWU had last year won the set of the national President of union.
The national President had earlier toured major broadcast stations in Anambra to touch base with members and also thank them for their support while he was running for the position.
He was latter treated to a grand reception at the premisses of ABS in Awka, where he was ushered into the compound by a dance group and members of staff of the station, who danced with him all through to the office of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ABS, Mr Chris Molokwu.
Kalu who addressed the MD said: “Our administration is embarking on critical engagement and strategic partnerships with relevant agencies to reposition the union for the better.
“One of my 12-point agenda is to give the union greater visibility, which I’m diligently pursuing. My leadership is working on infrastructural development, welfare packages for members, training, prompt salary payment, among others.”
He charged members of staff of both ABS Onitsha and Awka to remain committed to their duties.
The National President assured members of the Union from Anambra that being the first ever time Anambra and Igbo person is taking the headship of the union, they should be sure that the investments they made through their support will yield fruit for them.
“I’m here to thank you all, and also to present myself to the MD of ABS, and to say to you that I’m one of you, I’m still your staff, and I will be needing your support in ensuring success in this journey.
“I want to say that you (ABS MD) are a good man. We have heard of your exploits in this station, and I appreciate the support you have been giving to me. We have also seen your works, and we will continue to support you.”
The MD in his own welcome address pledged to continue to support Kalu, while also urging him to work towards ensuring the welfare of members of the union.
Molokwu later took the National President and his entourage on an inspection tour of facility, including the newly remodelled ultra-modern radio studio.
