The Anambra State Ministry of Transport has announced the mandatory registration of motor vehicle-related traders and service providers operating across major markets in the state.
The directive, contained in an official public notice issued by the ministry, covers operators in Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka markets, with the affected businesses required to obtain special trade licences.
According to the notice, the registration applies to six categories of motor vehicle-related businesses, namely auto workshops, spare-parts dealers, car-wash operators, vulcanisers, vehicle painters, and electrical and battery service providers.
The ministry said the registration is intended to provide official recognition for traders and service providers as licensed operators, while improving the credibility and trust associated with their businesses.
It also listed other purported benefits of registration to include access to government support and training programmes, compliance and legal protection under Anambra State laws, business growth opportunities and partnerships, as well as adherence to safety standards and professional certification.
The notice, however, did not stipulate a specific deadline for registration.
It warned that defaulters would be charged before the Anambra State Revenue Court after appropriate notices had been issued.
The ministry urged affected operators to take advantage of the registration process to regularise their businesses and avoid possible enforcement action.
The notice directed interested traders and service providers to register and make payments through the ministry’s online platform, mot.services.an.gov.ng.
