– Says alleged Umuosodi claimants clearing plots, luring unsuspecting buyers

The Anambra State Government has warned members of the public against purchasing plots of land at Trans Nkisi Phase 1, behind the Federal Government Girls College, Onitsha, following alleged attempts by persons claiming to be members of the Umuosodi family to sell portions of the area.
The warning was contained in a public notice issued by the state Ministry of Lands and dated September 28, 2026.
The public notice was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Mrs Nkiru Mokwe, Esq., for the Commissioner.
The ministry said it had received information that persons allegedly claiming membership of the Umuosodi family had invaded and commenced clearing portions of the land with the intention of deceiving unsuspecting members of the public into purchasing the plots.
It therefore urged members of the public not to buy any plot of land in the area from any person or group claiming ownership on behalf of the Umuosodi family.
According to the ministry, compensatory plots had already been allocated to the Umuosodi family and other families in Onitsha before the commencement of the present administration.
It further stated that the affected land had been lawfully allocated to various individuals and groups in the 1980s and 1990s, with many of the allottees having obtained Certificates of Occupancy.
The government advised prospective land buyers to verify the status of any government-owned or allocated land with the Ministry of Lands before entering into transactions.
It also warned that any illegal structures erected on the disputed land would be demolished by the Ministry of Physical Planning.
The notice added that the Ministry of Physical Planning would not grant approval for any development in the area.
