
The Nigerian media and entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of veteran journalist and entertainment writer, Chuks Nwanne, who served as General Manager of The Guardian’s Abuja operations until his death.
Nwanne, a native of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, also held the position of Saturday Editor at The Guardian newspaper. He was widely celebrated for his contributions to entertainment journalism and played a key role in advancing music, entertainment and lifestyle reporting in Nigeria.
He joined The Guardian in 2008 as a reporter on the entertainment beat and rose through the ranks, serving as Editorial Assistant of The Guardian Life Magazine, the paper’s weekly lifestyle publication. He later became Assistant Editor for Entertainment and Lifestyle, overseeing the Youth Magazine as well as the Travel and Tourism sections.
Nwanne studied Mass Communication at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, before earning a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo. He also took part in several professional training programmes both within Nigeria and abroad.
Outside journalism, Nwanne founded and served as Creative Director of the Ogbunike Cave Carnival, a three-day annual cultural festival established to promote the Ogbunike Cave and celebrate the heritage of his community.
His death has been described as a significant loss to Ogbunike, Anambra State, and to journalism and entertainment reporting across Nigeria. He is being remembered for his lasting impact on the industry and his efforts to preserve and promote his community’s cultural identity.
Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by his family, colleagues and associates in due course.
