Former member of the House of Representatives and Anambra State Coordinator of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, has declared that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have already secured the support of 70 per cent of Nigerian voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ibezi, who made the declaration on Wednesday in Awka during the inauguration of the NDC Anambra State Campaign Council, also projected that Obi would secure between 1.5 million and two million votes in Anambra State in the presidential election.

He likened Obi’s growing popularity to that of the late nationalist and former President of Nigeria, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, and the former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Dr Michael Okpara, saying the former Anambra State governor’s socioeconomic philosophy was resonating with Nigerians across different age groups and geographical locations.

According to him, the political appeal of Obi and Kwankwaso had transcended regional and ethnic boundaries, giving the NDC a strong electoral advantage ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

Ibezi expressed confidence that Anambra, which he described as a democratic state, would deliver overwhelming support for the NDC, adding that the party was poised to take over the state from those who described themselves as progressives.

He dismissed the political activities and alleged manoeuvres of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, insisting that they would not diminish the number of votes Obi would secure in the state.

He said the NDC was determined to win elections across the state and deliver its candidates from the presidential to the legislative and other elective positions.

Earlier, the Anambra State Chairman of the NDC, Rt. Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, who inaugurated the campaign council, charged members to commence aggressive mobilisation and ensure the victory of all the party’s candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration, held at King David Hotel and Suites, Regina Caeli Road, Awka, attracted several political stakeholders, including Hon. Afam Ogene, member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Ibezi, a former federal lawmaker, was recently appointed State Campaign Coordinator of the NDC Presidential Campaign Council in Anambra State.

Other principal officers of the council include Chief Egwuoba Okika Innocent, Deputy State Coordinator; Uzoezie, State Chairman; and Barr. Paulinus Akabogu Izuchukwu, State Campaign Secretary.

The council also has Chief Senator Victor Umeh, Senator Tony Nwoye and Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, the party’s senatorial candidates for Anambra Central, North and South respectively, as members.

The three senatorial districts have separate coordinators, with Hon. Kingsley Nwafor overseeing Anambra South, Barr. Chuka Ezenwunne coordinating the Central district and Rt. Hon. Chigbo Enwezor handling the North.

The campaign council has also established directorates for media and publicity, finance, logistics, women and youth mobilisation, security, grassroots mobilisation, election monitoring and vote protection, new media, protocol, policy research and documentation, among others.

Chief Tony Onyima, PhD, is the State Director of Media and Publicity, while Emeka Kissinger Osisi and Barr. Ogechukwu Ekweozor are to oversee youth and women mobilisation respectively.

The council also has coordinators across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State as part of efforts to extend the party’s mobilisation and campaign activities to the grassroots.
