Ebubeagu now killer squad, disband it – Says Group

Ndigbo Unity Forum NUF, has called on Governor’s Hope Uzodinma, Dave Umahi and other Southeast Governors to disband Ebubeagu security outfit in Igboland with immediate effect.

The group alleges that they are being used to kill and kidnap innocent people and youth in the region.

Also, National Human Rights Commission NHRC, Amnesty International and other Rights Groups, have been called to investigate the activities of Ebubeagu in the area.

The call was made Monday by the group after it’s meeting, arguing that Ebubeagu was set up to hunt for criminal elements and prevent other crimes in Igbo land, but alleged that they had resorted to dealing with those they were meant to protect.

In a statement made available to The Razor News Monday, which was signed by the group’s Chief Media Officer, Mazi Udemadu Chika, alleged Ebubeagu outfit had become killers

The Igbo group, condemned what it called the incessant, unwarranted and extra-judicial killings of innocent and unarmed Igbo youth in the South East zone

They pointed to the alleged killing of a Trader at Affor Ogidi Market known as Pastor, who they said, happened few weeks ago and other with daily despicable killings of unarmed youths on the Phantom allegations of inserting tattoo on their bodies

NUF, said such waste of human lives by the security outfit of the same people they ought to protect, had defeated the objective of setting it up.

The group noted that the reckless waste of human lives by Ebubeagu was more pronounced in Imo and Ebonyi States respectively.

Not only the killings, the group condemned what it called needles kidnappings for ransom in the zone.

They lamented that both the killings and kidnappings had affected the economy of the zone.

The group therefore, called on the National Hunan Rights Commission (NHRC), and other international Human Rights Organizations such as Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International among others to investigate the killings in the South East Region.

The group also called on the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom, Canada, European Commission, among others to investigate the killings and kidnappings in the zone.

Meanwhile, the group commended the security outfit set up by the Anambra State Government, the Anambra State Vigilante Services AVS for it’s respect for human rights.

It stated that the activities of AVS were not known to have abused the rights of citizens and people of the statewhile calling on other states to emulate the operational method of AVS.
