Following recent revelation of poor pay by management of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) for its adhoc staff, THE RAZOR has spoken with sources who claim that the allegations are false.

One of the sources described the ‘rot’ in ABS as structural and not something that has to do with management policies.

Sources at the establishment have also painted what they call the true picture of what is going on at ABS, saying that even though allegations of poor pay are true, there are few things that are not going right in the organisation in terms of staffing.

Anonymous sources who described the ABS as being structurally defective told THE RAZOR that: “No company with the staff strength of ABS, with same income can survive. Do you know that ABS parades over 200 staff members? But if you come into the company, only very few hands are consistent.

“I have been long enough in the company to know that we can survive without this huge staff strength. You may wish to go and look at the TV companies that are very popular today, how many staff do they have? They employ people who already know what role they will play, and if there are leakages, the company knows who to hold responsible.

“Here there is duplicity of role, with many people not even knowing what their job description is.”

Another source said despite the poor pay, most of the ad-hoc staff actually opt to remain in the company because the Managing Director of the company, Mr Chris Molokwu is sensitive to their plight and ensures that more opportunities of trainings where per diem is earned, are allocated to such staff.

“They(adhoc staff) actually have the option of resigning but choose to stay on due to how the MD has carried them along, making available side deals and even sending them on trainings where they earn per diem.

“If you ask me, ABS is surely on the rise and can do without these distractions. Majority of us are happy with with efforts of the management, it is the disgruntled ones affected by the checks put in by the MD to prevent leaks and misbehaviors are throwing tantrums.”

When contacted, a senior management staff of the establishment, who declined being quoted said he would like to join issues with propaganda being peddled on social media.

He declined comment, but when pushed further however, stated that: “Truth is that majority of the ad-hoc staff actually earn more than 20,000, majority of them are likely to be converted to full staff soonest, and we have been working on this, but people won’t see it.

“We have been doing a lot with so little at our disposal, improving content and even taking ABS back to cable tv, but these are not things I want to start saying now, hence it be seen as trying to defend accusations levied against me on social media.
