Achalla community elects Okadigbo as new President General

The People of Achalla community in Awka North local government area of Anambra state have elected Chief Charles Okadigbo as the new President General of the town.

The people in their numbers thronged to Udoka primary school, Eke venue of the exercise which was fixed by the Anambra state government through an official letter from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

However upon arrival to the venue for the election, the Community observed that the Electoral committee which had been reconstituted for a period of three months each for three consecutive times, bolted and declined showing up to conduct the election.

This led to the entire Community passing a vote of no confidence on the committee and nominating one representative each from the eight villages that make up Achalla and selected Chief Pat Anago as the Chairman of the new adhoc electoral committee.

The adhoc Committee went ahead to dissolve the former town union executive leadership and thereafter proceeded in conducting the election using option A4.

The Chairman of the electoral committee, Chief Pat Anago who said they relied on and used the 1986 constitution of Achalla community, declared that Chief Charles Okadigbo scored a total of Nine Hundred and Twenty Three votes and has been elected President General of Achalla Improvement Union.

According to him, the other candidate , Chief Nnamdi Ikwune who had campaigned prior to the election date, however failed to show up at the venue while his few supporters also queued up for the available candidate.

There was wide jubilation in the venue and around the community shortly after the election result was announced and winner declared.

A Stakeholder and former Law maker that represented Awka North in the Anambra state House of Assembly , Onowu John Nwokoye applauded the peaceful conduct of the exercise which he described the outcome as the. Stand of the people.

Onowu Nwokoye who is also the traditional Prime Minister of the Community ,congratulated the new President General and thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing a peaceful and conducive atmosphere within the state , which made it possible for the people to come out and elect the candidate of their choice.

Another Community leader and stakeholder, Barrister Patrick Nwora regretted that for a long time, Achalla Community had been in disarray and living in bondage under the previous leadership due to lack of accountability and openness.

Barrister Nwora therefore encouraged the new leadership to strive to bring about reconciliation, peace, sincerity in governance and unity back to the area in the interest of peace and development.

In an interview, the new President General of Achalla Improvement Union, Chief Charles Okadigbo thanked the people for having faith in his capacity to lead them and promised to reconcile all camps and attract more development to the Awka North Local Government Area capital.
