ACTDA bans use of containers for trading in Awka, to enforce use of uniform signboards
The Head of Development Control, Awka Capital Territory Development Agency, ACTDA, Mr Charles Ekwunife has said that the Prof Chukwuma Soludo administration has banned the use of metal containers for trading major streets across the state capital, Awka.
Ekwunife also said that soon, the agency would commence enforcement of use of uniform signboards by all business ventures sited in such areas of Awka.
“All shop and business owners within the state capital will use yellow Aluco board with black write ups as signposts in other to give the capital city a desirable outlook.”
He said the aim of the state government was to have an organised uniformed city outlook as every shop is expected to give a distance of four foot from the drainage Channels across the state .
Mr further explained that however people are permitted to have a canopy in front of their shops but that such must not be extended more than your feet from the building.
He stated this when he led a team to sensitize members of the public on government policies towards making Awka a mega city.
Recently, the agency enforced the ban on street trading in major streets of Awka.
During the sensitization, Ekwunife saidl plans are on by the Anambra State Government to develop cluster sales points within Awka capital to accommodate displaced street traders.
He said government has designated various temporary locations for the traders who had been causing obstruction in major roads across the capital city to continue their businesses pending the completion of the sales points.
According to him, when the traders move into the designated places, it will be much cheaper and safer for them rather than displaying their goods and wares along the streets of Awka.
He noted that in line with the governor Soludo idea of creating a liveable and prosperous Homeland, the Awka Capital Territory Development Agency( ACTDA) underscores the importance to enhance the beauty of the environment.
The Head of Development Control appealed to the people to cooperate with the present administration to ensure that Awka is raised to a status befitting of a state capital as the enforcement will be a continuous exercise with more severe measures to keep things in order.
