Akpabio, Natasha Deserve Strokes of the Cane Over Scandal- Catholic Priest

By Ononye VC
A huge laughter broke out at the St Mary’s Catholic Church,Onitsha Inland town on Sunday, when the Parish Priest Rev Fr Samuel Uzondu who was delivering his homily during a Mass, berated the President of the Senate,Senator Godswill Akpabio and the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District Barr(Mrs) Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over alleged sexual harassment and scandalous story about the duo making the rounds in the media.
Rev Fr Uzondu took a swipe on them saying they were not only shameless but deserve twelve strokes of the cane each publicly,if they were to be little children brought before him for discipline.
According to him,as elected lawmakers who should have occupied themselves with issues concerning welfare of the people who voted them into their positions, they instead, came out publicly washing their dirty linens in the public over allegations of sexual harassment showing that they were not only shameless but idle and unproductive.
Acknowledging the hardship which is presently ravaging the country and denying many citizens their sources of livelihood,Fr Uzondu said it was a paradox that people vested with authority to better the life of people were appearing on national television and social media to promote inanities and even making such stories “Breaking News”.
“If they were still kids, the proper thing would’ve been to bring them in a public square and give each of them 24 lashes of the cane” to bring them back to their senses,Fr Uzondu said, though humorously.
Fr Uzondu did not spare those he described as “hypocrites”.He was preaching on the backdrop of the Gospel from St Luke (6:39-45)where he pointed out that some christians are quick to see the fault in others but are lacking in necessary virtues.
He urged christians to try and remove the log in their eyes before removing the speck in another man’s eyes.
Fr Uzondu pointed out that most Christians were enough troubles unto themselves yet looking out for other troubles which do not concern them.
According to him, everyone has a sin even though many walk about freely like saints but when their hearts are opened, they contained embarrassing iniquities.
Speaking on the general hardship in the country, the clergyman cautioned Christians to remain steadfast in their faith in God.
According to him, tribulation could come to any man at any time as their was no standards in measuring the will of God.
He cited Psalm 34 vs19 saying that many are the trials of a just man citing instances with the trials and tribulation of Job who he said, triumphed in the end.
He called for soul searching among Christians in whatever they do and urged them to salvage themselves first before criticizing others.
