The Nnamdi Azikiwe University will on Saturday, April 4, 2026, host the maiden Sir Clement Akpamgbo Memorial Lecture, aimed at advancing discourse on access to justice and legal advocacy in Nigeria.

The lecture, organised by the Faculty of Law of the institution in conjunction with the Friends and Associates of the late legal luminary, Sir Clement Obiora Akpamgbo, is themed: ‘Role of Advocacy in Promoting Access to Justice in Nigeria: Lessons from Sir Clement Obiora Akpamgbo’s Legacy’.

The event is scheduled to hold at the ASUU Secretariat, NAU, Awka, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chris Uche, is expected to deliver the keynote lecture, while the Asagba of Asaba, Epiphany Azinge, will serve as the Royal Father of the Day.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Bond Anyaehie, will act as the Chief Host, with the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Felicia Anyogu, serving as host.

Notable legal scholars slated as discussants include Prof Ilochi Okafor, a former Vice-Chancellor of the university, and Okechukwu Oko of the Southern University Law Center, Baton Rouge, United States.

The organisers, chaired by the announcer, Dr. Noel N. Udeoji, Chairman of the Publicity Sub-Committee, said the memorial lecture seeks to honour the enduring legacy of Akpamgbo, a respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria, by fostering conversations on strengthening legal advocacy and improving access to justice in the country.

The event is being convened by Emeka Ngige, while the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Anyogu, also plays a key coordinating role.

Members of the public, particularly stakeholders in the legal profession, academia, and civil society, are expected to attend the event.

According to the planning committee, interested participants can confirm attendance through Prof. MVC Ozioko and Dr. Ejike Okaphor.

The lecture marks a significant step in institutionalising intellectual engagement around the contributions of the late Akpamgbo to Nigeria’s legal development.
