Anambra-based spiritualist, Prophet Onyeze Jesus, has been arrested.
Sources revealed that the spiritualist was arrested over the weekend.
Onyeze Jesus gained notoriety for his controversial “quick riches” rituals, which involved taking followers to a river in Nkpor, where they would strip, hold rams, and chant while throwing money into the water.
After vanishing from public glare last year, Onyeze resurfaced with claims that he was kidnapped, accusing his mother-in-law of orchestrating the abduction.
He later separated from his wife.
Instead of returning to his river rituals, Onyeze built a “Pool of Bethesda” at his residence, continuing his practices under a new guise.
His arrest marks the third high-profile crackdown on “quick riches” spiritualists in Anambra, following the arrests of Akwa Ókùkó Tiwara Aki and Eke Hit.
The state government has intensified efforts to regulate native doctors, citing concerns over their alleged connections to fraud and insecurity.
Security agencies have identified the activities of native doctors, who perform rituals for young men seeking quick wealth, as a significant contributor to the escalating cases of kidnapping and ritual killings.
