Anambra: 10 Arrested Over Murder of Gbafankiti in Nimo

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested ten suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a prominent traditional titleholder and community leader in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The victim, identified as High Chief Ogbuefi Ozo Nnayelugo na Nimo, popularly known as High Chief Gbafankiti na Nimo, was reportedly kidnapped and later found dead near a piggery farm in the community on June 23, 2025.

According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests were carried out on June 28, 2025, by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.

Ikenga stated that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as investigators process information obtained during preliminary questioning.

He also noted that the next phase of the investigation will proceed as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD.

The police statement, titled “Update on Investigation of the Recovered Lifeless Body of an Alleged Kidnapped Victim in Nimo: Anambra Police Have Ten Suspects in Custody Undergoing Interrogation,” assured the public that further developments would be communicated in due course.

The murder of High Chief Gbafankiti, a widely respected figure in Nimo and beyond, has sparked outrage and sorrow across the state, with community leaders and residents calling for justice and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and to provide any useful information that may assist the ongoing investigation.
