The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) crossed a critical milestone on Saturday, March 15, 2025, with the successful conduct of its delegate elections across the state’s 326 wards. While there were instances of tension in a few locations, the results emerging from the process tell a compelling story: Sir Paul Chukwuma has solidified his position as the front-runner in the race for the APC governorship ticket, thanks to years of tireless grassroots engagement and relationship-building.

At the heart of democracy lies consensus-building and interest aggregation, principles that thrive on shared values and trust. These ideals cannot be bought or imposed, and nowhere was this more evident than in the Anambra APC delegate elections. Most of the delegates elected align with Sir Paul Chukwuma’s vision of repositioning the APC into a more cohesive, inclusive, and winning political force in the state.

For over three years, Sir Paul has painstakingly worked to strengthen the party’s structure, rebuild trust among its members, and foster unity within its ranks. His inclusive approach and unwavering commitment to the party’s growth have earned him the loyalty of the party faithful. This deep-rooted support translated into overwhelming success during the delegate elections, as his allies and supporters were elected as delegates in most wards across the state.

In stark contrast, the election process was marred in a few areas by skirmishes and acts of brigandage – desperate attempts by a rival aspirant to disrupt an otherwise peaceful process. These unfortunate incidents underscore a fundamental reality: desperation often takes over when inducement fails to sway committed party members. However, the Anambra APC members have shown remarkable resilience and clarity of purpose, rejecting attempts to compromise the integrity of the process through violence or financial inducement.

With the delegate elections now largely concluded, all eyes are on the Election Supervision Committee. There is a widespread call for the committee to uphold transparency and fairness in the collation of results. This process’s credibility is vital for the Anambra APC and the future of democracy in Nigeria.

Sir Paul Chukwuma’s strong showing and the alignment of the majority of elected delegates with his vision send a clear signal: the APC in Anambra is ready for a new direction, built on genuine relationships, trust, and a shared commitment to victory. His emergence as the front-runner is not an accident but the result of deliberate, sustained efforts to reposition the party and inspire confidence among its members.

As the party moves towards its governorship primaries, Sir Paul’s momentum continues to grow, offering a glimpse of what lies ahead—a reinvigorated APC poised to make history in Anambra State.
