Anambra Correspondents’ Chapel Mourns Death of Veteran Journalist, Alphonsus Nweze

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of one of its senior members, Mr. Alphonsus Nweze, who died in a fatal motor accident.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Chapel, Mr. Chuks Ilozue, and the Secretary, Mrs. Lucy Osuizigbo-Okechukwu, the union described Nweze’s passing as a devastating loss to the journalism profession and the media community in Anambra State.
According to the statement, the late Nweze was a seasoned journalist widely respected for his professionalism, integrity, and strong sense of justice.
He was said to have contributed immensely to the growth and credibility of journalism practice in the state through his balanced reporting and consistent advocacy for social justice and good governance.
“The Correspondents’ Chapel received with deep shock and sadness the news of the death of our dear colleague, Mr. Alphonsus Nweze, who tragically lost his life in a motor accident,” the statement read in part.
“Until his death, he distinguished himself as a dedicated journalist, passionate about the ethics of the profession and the role of the media in nation-building. His demise has created a huge vacuum that will be difficult to fill,” it added.
The Chapel extended its heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s immediate family, friends, colleagues, and the wider media fraternity, praying God to grant his soul eternal rest and his loved ones the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
Nweze, who was until his death a correspondent with Apex News, was known for his calm disposition, thoroughness in reportage, and unwavering commitment to the pursuit of truth.
His colleagues described him as “a journalist’s journalist” whose footprints will remain indelible in the profession
