The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, has been named the “Best Crime Fighter – Man of the Year 2025” by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
According to the statement, the award was presented during the NUJ FCT Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony, held on Monday, July 22, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The event, which featured the theme “Journalism in a Changing World: Press Freedom, Media, Democracy and Society,” attracted dignitaries and stakeholders from across the country.
In its citation, the NUJ FCT Council lauded CP Orutugu’s outstanding leadership, innovative crime prevention strategies, and unwavering dedication to public safety in Anambra State.
It highlighted the significant reduction in violent crimes under his leadership, the dismantling of criminal networks, and the strengthening of community policing.
The Council also commended the Commissioner for his professionalism, transparency, and firm commitment to the rule of law—qualities that have boosted public trust in the police and fostered stronger collaboration with other security agencies.
While receiving the award, CP Orutugu expressed gratitude to the NUJ and dedicated the honour to the officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command. He acknowledged their sacrifice, resilience, and collective effort in ensuring the safety and security of the state.
“This award is not just a personal recognition, but a tribute to the collective effort of every officer in the Command,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking security officials, including the Inspector General of Police, represented by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi; the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7, represented by ACP Odugbesan O.; and other senior officers and stakeholders.
The Anambra State Police Command expressed appreciation to the NUJ FCT Council for the honour and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and excellence in policing.
