The Deputy Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, has revealed why insecurity in Anambra State has continued unabated.
He alleged that since Governor Chukwuma Soludo assumed office in 2022, his administration has not provided even a bicycle to support the police in combating crime.
According to Nwobu, no conventional security agency in the state has been empowered to fight insecurity. Instead, what he described as “ragtag and makeshift recruits” are armed and deployed as operatives, leading to frequent cases of brutality against citizens.
Nwobu, who spoke at The RAZOR Forum — ANAMBRA DECIDES 2025, said that while the idea of establishing security outfits such as Agunechemba and Udo Ga-chi was laudable, the methodology behind them was “grossly inept.”
“The security and welfare of the people is the paramount responsibility of government, but Soludo has failed woefully in this regard,” Nwobu, a former Chairman of Awka South Local Government Council, said.
Expressing optimism that the ADC is a credible alternative that would restore confidence in governance, he added:“Who feels secure in Anambra today? Nobody. How do you re-elect someone who cannot protect you?
“Insecurity is Soludo’s greatest bane. He quickly assembled ragtag groups called Udo Ga-chi and Agunechemba. Laudable ideas, yes, but not well thought out. For three years running, he has not given support to conventional security agencies. He could not even buy a bicycle for the police.
“Yes, those conventional outfits are federal government agencies, but they exist to protect our people. They ought to be supported with high-tech security equipment.”
He further said that a properly profiled and trained state vigilance group should have been created, well-equipped, adequately paid, and provided with tools such as CCTV and surveillance cameras.
Instead, he alleged, “Close to the election year, Soludo’s government hurriedly assembled a ragtag group, bought used vehicles locally, panel-beated them, and handed them to the makeshift vigilantes, unleashing them on the streets.”
On the issue of zoning the governorship seat in Anambra, Nwobu described the arrangement as laudable but insisted that Soludo lacked the moral justification to preach zoning.
According to him, “Soludo contested twice against zoning before he was eventually elected governor on his third attempt, when zoning equity favoured him.”
Nwobu reassured that the ADC would respect the zoning arrangement, noting that the party’s governorship candidate, Sir John Nwosu, has repeatedly pledged commitment to it and even sworn an affidavit to that effect.
The ADC deputy governorship candidate also accused Soludo of failing on all indices of good governance despite his celebrated academic profile.
He alleged that the government’s accounting system is opaque and reminded the public that Soludo, who promised local government elections within six months of assuming office, only conducted what he described as a “sham council poll” after two years.
On infrastructure, Nwobu dismissed the governor’s record, declaring that “Soludo’s development agenda is nothing but ‘All Roads Lead to Isuofia.’”
