Anambra State Organized Health Sector Unions have given the state Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo 15 days ultimatum to respond to the problems presented to him or face industrial action
The Unions in a letter to the Governor, Friday in Awka, said the first ultimatum given to him in December 2024 that expired in January 2025, was treated with levity with fake promises.
The Health Unions are, National Association of Nurses and Midwives, (NANNM),Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) and Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAP)
The letter was signed by the chairmen and secretaries of the Unions in the state and copied to the national bodies, NLC, TUC in the state, commissioners for Health, Environment and Local government, Joint Negotiating Council, among others
Some of their demands that remained unattended, according to the Unions are,
Implementation of 100% CONHESS in the State and Local Government System,
Implementation of 25% upward review of CONHESS Salary,Implementation of Skipping of CONHESS 10 across board to all health workers.
Others included, are, Payment of rural posting allowance, Enhanced entry point for Nursing Officer Cadre SGL10-17 for B.Sc Nursing and
Implementation of the reviewed call duty, shift duty and hazard allowances for health professionals and workers, among others
“After an exhaustive deliberation by the expanded State Executive Councils of the trio
Unions in session on the pitiable state of the workers welfare, the resolution to give
another 15 day ultimatum to the State Government was reached within which the
government should address the demands aforementioned.
“The expanded State Executive/Council in session directed the leadership to issue the ultimatum to State Government through the State Ministry of Health with effect from Friday, 1* August 2025 to expire at midnight Friday, 15” August 2025.
“If the Government fails to do the needful before the expiration of the ultimatum, the Organized Unions will have no other option than to immediately commence on an indefinite industrial action.
“We solicit, therefore, that the Government should do the needful to nip the issue in the bud to avert industrial disharmony in the State” the Unions wrote
